Beauty Rituals You Should Continue Year Round

Don’t let up when it comes to these musts

Let’s face it, now that the motivation of tiny bikinis and warm summer afternoons has passed, our normal beauty routine tends fall behind. However, regardless if you’re hitting the slopes or in hibernation mode it’s crucial you keep up with a few beauty rituals regularly. Here’s a look at three musts according to the experts.

  • Don’t Skimp on Sunscreen. Don’t be fooled by lower temperatures, overcast skies or rainy days. UV rays are just as strong when hitting the slopes as they are on the beach. “The easiest way to prevent sun damage and protect your skin is to apply an SPF of at least 30 every day - not to mention, look younger. Reapplying every 2 hours if in the sun is critical as well” says Dr. Nussbaum, Dermatologist and Brand Spokesperson for Sebamed.
  • Use Hair Masks Regularly. Do you color your hair, straighten it a few times a week or use a lot of hair spray? Adding chemicals, applying heat or using products are habits that we all find hard to kick, and can come with some unwanted side effects. Anna Urban, CEO of AVIVA notes that “you should be applying a hair mask like Aviva’s Hair Rescue Renewal Masque 1-2 times per week to repair damage and restore elastic, while replenishing the moisture which often depletes from dry summer heat and the cold winter air.”
  • Wax Even Through Winter. Let’s face it, as the temperature drop [...]

Ellovi Body Butter

Pure and natural skincare

Ellovi is a brand on a mission - a mission to get all of us to stop using products formulated with loads of artificial ingredients and cheap fillers. The brands two co-founders are setting out to do this via their newly launched carefully crafted skincare brand. Their first product is a six ingredient body butter. Each smooth jar is made by hand and is all-natural. Not only is it super hydrating - even on very dry winter skin - it feels amazing and is easy to lather unlike many butters on the market.

The body moisturizer is made from macadamia nut, coconut, marula nut, hemp seed, and shea. There are [...]

Mommy and me nail polish

If you’re anything like us you go wild for anything mommy and me. It’s one of those things you inevitably think is cheesy until you have your own little ones. Our girls may still be young but they’re already asking for makeup, something we refuse to give into. We aren’t all about saying “no” however and have been letting them play around with polishes - as long as they are free of common toxins and irritants. What’s better than your everyday Revlon however? We’re glad you asked! Check out ella+mila a line of mommy and me nail polish that comes in a range of beautiful shades, all of which are made without harmful chemicals. All of the brand’s [...]

L’Oréal Paris’ Expert Guide to Choosing Flattering Colors this Winter

From polish to lipstick, we’ve got you covered

Choosing the most flattering hair color, nail polish and lipstick can be a challenge. Skin tone fluctuates throughout the year, so a color that looks phenomenal in the summer could easily make you look tired and washed out in the winter. Fortunately, L’Oréal Paris experts Kari Hill, Tom Bachik and Billy B. share some tips on how to choose the most flattering shades along with product recommendations!

Kari Hill, L’Oréal Paris Consulting Hair Colorist

· Tip: Instead of using the face, I look at the forearm to determine a more precise and unaffected matching of skin tone. When choosing hair color, in addition to skin tone, you should also consider your natural eye color, present choice of makeup, desired maintenance/upkeep and the time of year.

· Cool haircolor tones look best on skin with cool undertones, which can be blue or pink on fair skin to event an olive undertone for darker. On fair skin, L’Oréal Paris Mousse Absolue in Lightest Icy Blonde ($14.99) or Feria Absolute Platinum ($9.99) typically look great. For darker skin, consider L’Oréal Paris Mousse Absolue Icy Dark Brown ($14.99) or Superior Preference Luminere Black Sapphire ($9.99).

· Warm haircolor tones look best on skin with golden or yellow undertones, regardless of dark or light skin. Some at-home hair color options that look good on warm skin tones include, L’Oréal Paris Mousse Absolue Lightest Golden Blonde ($14.99), L’Oréal Paris Excellence Crème Medium Golden Blonde($8.99) or L’Oréal Paris Feria Dark Gold Blonde ($9.99).

· Neutral toned haircolor is the closest tone that could complement a wide variety of skin tones. I liken a neutral color to the tone of a child’s hair. Here are some haircolor options for accommodating varied skin tones: L’Oréal [...]

Keep Your Skin Healthy

Time to shake things up

New season, new skincare routine. If you’re looking to reboot your system - and aren’t we all this time of year - get yourself on the right foot with a season-appropriate routine. To find out just how to do that we spoke with Dr. Ruth Tedaldi and ascarfreeme.com, a new online social community dedicated to helping people who suffer from scarring associated with acne, to get tips on what we can do now. Here’s what she had to say!

· Change Your Wardrobe, Change Your Skin Care Routine—just as your attire and day-to-day activities change with the colder months, so will your skin and its needs. Cold, dry air and winds can cause skin to lose moisture and vital natural oils. Similarly, cranked up heaters can also cause skin to dry out and become tight or itchy. Consult with a dermatologist to develop a personalized winter care plan

· Nourish & Hydrate—integrate nourishing and hydrating products into your skin care regimen, such as richer and creamier body lotion or concentrated lip balm

· Combat Heaters—combat heaters and dry winds by switching to milder soaps and detergents that aren’t as harsh on skin, especially when laundering bed linens

· Scale Back on Topical Acne Medications—if your skin is peeling and causing you to scratch your skin, it may be time to scale back on topical acne medications. Uncomfortable peeling and flaking as a result of acne fighting creams and ointments can lead to constant itching and unwanted acne scarring

· Use noncomedogenic products—For acne [...]
