As women we’re programmed to think “cardio cardio cardio” when it comes to our fitness routine, but the truth is resistance training is just as important. And no, you won’t bulk up. It is true, as we learned firsthand from Tracy Anderson however, that lifting heavy weights does not age well meaning that if you have a body that is prone to “bulking up,” it’s best to opt for body weight and low resistance work. With that in mind we love this Balance Ball from Gaiam.

The lightweight ball is a travel-friendly and effective tool to tone your whole body and works your core the whole way through. It comes with a a full length DVD workout led by fitness instructor Tanja Djelevic, which combines Pilates, yoga and strength moves. Not only is the workout effective (we recommend at least three times a week for optimal results), but it’s low impact so you don’t have to fret over your joints.
