The Liberating Practice of Insight Meditation
If you ask most moms what they wish they had more of, odds are they’d say time. Time to themselves, time for their family, time to devote to the leisure activities they most cherish…and the list goes on. While there may be no genie in a bottle that can give us the gift of more time, thanks to powerful reads like “Breath by Breath: The Liberating Practice of Insight Meditation” we can make the best of what we’ve got.
Based on the Anapanasati Sutra, the Buddha’s teaching on cultivating both tranquility and deep insight through full awareness of breathing, this is an insightfully written book by Larry Rosenberg who shares his thoughts, gained from his many years of practice and teaching, to make insight meditation more easily accessible to modern practitioners (and by that we mean busy mamas!).
The thing that really left a mark on us after reading this book is how important mastering the art of breathing is. That’s right…just breathing! It sounds so simple yet with life’s many stressors properly executing each inhale and exhale often falls to the wayside.
We have countless responsibilities to other people, but we can’t forget the responsibilities we have to take care of ourselves. Do yourself and the women you love a favor and share this powerful read with them, encouraging them to take just a few minutes each day to themselves.
Oh the power of a little ommmm action…it cannot be understated!
