New from Vitamix

A personal sized blender

Called the S30, Vitamix just launched a new personal sized blender and we’re in love.

Basically you can expect all the same amazing-ness as you’d find with a traditional Vitamix blender - like high-performance hot or cold blending and the innovative self-cleaning - but you get the added bonus of a compact shape (perfect for say…a New York City apartment), and on-the-go food prep.

We also love this new blender for portion controlling since we can make individual portions of smoothies and soups, two things we often consume way more than one serving size of (the container is 40oz).

The motor found in this model is a 120 volt (60Hz), 790 watt, 1-peak horsepower motor - just like the full-size Vitamix motors so again you can expect the same high-powered quality. The luxe blender’s motor is fitted with a cooling fan and thermal protection system to prevent overheating and there’s an automatic shut-off protection, so that the motor can not be operated without the base being correctly attached [...]

Exfoliating Scrubs: Sugar Vs. Salt

Relax your body and mind

What is the difference between Salt and Sugar Scrubs for face & body? When should you use each? What are the benefits? These are some of the questions we asked Dr. Marina Peredo, associate clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and founder of Spatique Medical Spa. Dr. Peredo shares her expert insight on the subject below.

  • The difference between salt and sugar scrubs is the size of the granules. The smaller the granules, the gentler they are on the skin. Generally, sugar particles are smaller, making them less abrasive on the skin.
  • Sugar scrubs are best used for people with sensitive skin or any skin conditions including rosacea, acne and eczema.
  • Salt scrubs are much coarser in texture and are best used on thick, rough patches of skin like callused elbows, knees and feet.
  • Salt scrubs can also be beneficial for harsh acne breakouts as they help in absorbing oil and unclogging pores.
  • Sugar scrubs are preferable to use on the face as opposed to salt scrubs. The skin on our [...]

Celebrity Chef April Bloomfield on the Perfect Burger

Let’s get grilling

Given that chef April Bloomfield’s restaurant The Spotted Pig does not accept reservations and the last time we went we were told there would be a four hour wait, we were elated to find out that she has dished out the recipe for her famous burger. See below and start firing up the grill!

Ingredients for Burger:

1lb brisket, minced
8 ounces rump, minced
8 ounces chuck, minced
4 buns, split and toasted

Ingredients for Dressing:

6 ounces blue cheese
2 ounces crème fraîche
¼ tsp garlic, finely chopped
4 tbsp white-wine vinegar

To make the dressing crumble the cheese into a bowl and stir in the other ingredients, then chill it until it is ready to use.
